2024 Sustainability Highlights
Posted by Your Friends at PO.P on Jan 16, 2025
Our vision has remained the same since 1976: to design and produce clothes of the highest quality that can be passed down to the next child, and the next. In our annual Sustainability Report, we summarise the progress and challenges of the past year and how we are working to move closer to our goals. Here are some of the highlights.
Increased sales of secondhand garments
Over the past year, we sold 124,500 pre-loved PO.P garments in our own stores and via ThredUP here in the United States – an increase of over 30% compared to the previous year. PO.P Used & Loved is available in all Nordic stores and online exclusively in the USA and has recently expanded in the UK to both our own stores and selected department stores. The goal? For our clothes to be worn by at least three children!
Most sold children’s clothing brand on Tradera – three years in a row
We’re proud to continue being the most sold children’s clothing brand on Tradera, Sweden’s leading secondhand platform. In 2024, over 68,000 beloved PO.P garments found new owners through the platform—an important part of our circular efforts.
At Polarn O. Pyret USA, we’re equally committed to the secondhand circular movement through our decade-long partnership with ThredUp, helping extend the life of even more PO.P garments. Together, we’re making a meaningful impact by promoting sustainable fashion and reducing waste. ♻️
65% of our outerwear is worn by three children or more
Quality and sustainable design ensure that our clothes stand the test of time. Every year, we conduct a survey asking customers how their garments are used and passed on. This year’s survey shows that 65% of our outerwear and 57% of all our garments are worn by at least three children – proof that our sustainability efforts are paying off.
Factory Seconds reduces production waste
As part of our work to minimise waste, we launched our Factory Seconds concept this year, offering slightly defective but fully functional garments at a reduced price. This might include items with a skewed logo or an incorrect colour shade.
Sustainable materials and smarter transport
- 99.85% of our garments are now made from more sustainable materials, and all the cotton we use is 100% organic.
- 93% of the synthetic fibres in our products are certified recycled.
- By investing in biofuel for all sea and air transports, we reduced our CO₂ emissions by 114 tonnes compared to the previous year.
Together, we can achieve even more
We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past year, and much of it is thanks to you. Together, we continue our journey toward a more sustainable future. By thinking circularly, prioritising sustainable materials, and designing garments that can be loved again and again, we can extend the life of every garment and reduce the need for new consumption.
